This Weekend

Angel Eyes spent the night Friday night, and we started out with a few sewing lessons, which she loved, that is until the machine decided to act up and spoil all of our fun.

"Hey Mimi," she said, "since we can't sew right now, can we go kayaking?"

It was a gorgeous day so off we went.

"This is really fun! Can we do it for a long time?"

When I finally paddled us to shore she stayed in the boat.
"Mimi, next time I really think I could go in the kayak by myself!"

"Hey, let's pretend this is a jungle and we are scientist on an adventure!"

"Ouch! Those little, sharp things hurt!"

Last Weekend

The last two weekends have been beautiful. I'm behind on posting so I'm sharing last weekend's stuff and will try to post tomorrow on this weekend.

Pretty weather almost always means a trip to the farm to feed some of the animals. It was carrots for the horses this day.

And when we ran out of carrots the kids offered flowers, and to my surprise, and the kid's delight, the horses loved them.

Belle just can't get enough of the animals! She wants to be a vet when she grows up, and I'm sure she'll be a great one. She has a way with any animal she's around. Spidey likes them too!

Pooh Bear stayed home and rode his stick horse, upside-down no less.

Part of my weekend was spent making this purse for a cousin of mine, whose purse was stolen out of her car while she was at church.

I also enjoyed going to a quilt show on Saturday.

There were so many lovely quilts, and I took tons of pictures. (I will only post a few.)

This particular one was made by a lady who had made an entire room full of quilts, all hand sewn, hand quilted, and hand appliqued. There was one she had even dyed the fabric for. She didn't start quilting until she was in her fifties, and they said there were forty something other quilts that they didn't even bring! What an inspiration!

The show was in a church and every little Sunday school room, chapel and even the sanctuary were all decorated with quilts made by local women, quilts that people had bought, or had been handed down for generations. They all had such a personality. Some had bits of the history pinned to them. I could have spent the whole day in there! Come to think of it I almost did.

This one had over 20,000 pieces in it! It makes me tired to even look at it! I don't know the name of the pattern, but I think I would have called it Patience!

Things are Changing

Anytime you are around children for any length of time you learn just how quickly things change. It has been very noticeable around here lately! Baby Dino has learned to say "thank you."

Spidey is learning his letter sounds and is beginning to read.

Pooh Bear can walk now, and Belle has learned to whistle.

Bet you can't guess what Scooter has learned to do.

Angel Eyes has now lost both front teeth, even if there is only one missing in this picture, and she can ride her bike without training wheels! And Sweet Cheeks, well, She has learned to cut hair, not that we have encouraged her new knowledge!

Who knows what changes the next few weeks will bring, but for today we will celebrate these!

Self-Inflected Haircut and Giveaway Winner

Yesterday I received a call from my daughter saying she was running a fever and could I please come help her with the kids. I started over there when I received a second call. This time she was in tears and I could barely understand her as she explained that Sweet Cheeks had cut off half of her precious, beloved curls. I arrived shortly thereafter to find my darling grand-daughter sporting an awful, early nineties mullet. Sweet Cheeks was quite proud of her handiwork, and not at all repentant. She is very much a ham, and loves any sort of attention.

This is what it looked like when I arrived.

When asked why she did such a thing she offered many explanations from the workings of her two year old mind. First, she said it was messy so she cut off the messy part. Then, she told her sister she wanted to be a baby and babies have short hair. Another time she offered that her mommy wanted her to do it. Who knows what really went on in her adorable little head.

Yesterday her mother was too sick and upset to make a decision as to what needed to be done until late that afternoon. At that time it was too late to get an appointment the same day, but they worked her in this morning early. The cut had to be short, and we were apprehensive, but what else was there to do but cut more off?

It is adorable though isn't it? I guess all is well that ends well, right?

Now for some GOOD news:
I have a winner!! Congratulations to suburban prep. You are the winner! I'll send you an e-mail with all of the details. Have fun shopping!
