Two sides to every...

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

We took an impromptu trip to town today and I caught a couple of cute shots of the girls without them knowing, and then another few with them hamming it up.

Here is a sweet little dress I just finished for Scooter.  I hope it is long enough.  The last two I made for her got passed down to Sweet Cheeks because they were too short.  For some reason I think kids grow more in the spring and  summertime.

Happy Memorial Day

Sorry, no pictures today.  I had a wonderful day.  I baked a Boston cream pie for my youngest brother and my mom's birthday, put up a bushel of sweet corn, swam for a little while with the girls and went to a family barbecue.  There are so many other things that need to be done, but I never seem to get around to them.  House work is not high on my priority list.  It gets done sporadically, but I'm definitely not one of those people who can't leave the house or go to bed until it is in perfect order.  My poor grandmother would be so ashamed.  Sorry Granny.  If I ever come into a large sum of money I don't really care if I get a fancy car or elaborate house, my one frivolous desire is a housekeeper.  I can hear Granny's voice now, "Mindy, if wishes were horses beggars would ride."  Guess that was her way of saying, "It ain't gonna happen!!"  (but of course she would have never said ain't!)

Painting Party

It was a gorgeous day here in Alabama. An unseasonably cool, spring day with a touch of a breeze, it was the kind of day you want to have over and over again. My daughter, the girls and I had visited my parents a couple of days ago, and my dad was painting a Western landscape.  The oldest one was enthralled  and really wanted to paint with him, but it was time for us to go so we didn't really have time for an impromptu painting lesson.  I promised that if they could wait until Wednesday we would have a painting day.  They have been talking about it ever since.  The oldest one has been watching painting shows on PBS.  I set up a couple of table top easels outside and got out the paints.  They weren't content with paper, they really wanted a canvas like Pepaw had.  You can't slip anything over on kids these days.  Before long they asked me to get out the camera so they could do their own painting show.  They even wanted to shoot their own commercials.  They are quite the little hams!  How do you like the picture of the tornado, house and the little girl who lives there, and the cross.  There is a cute little story that went with that one, but it doesn't sound the same when I tell it.

sewing

Yeah!  Finally I got a little time to sew.  I made two dresses for two of the grands, but I didn't get pictures before giving them to them.  Maybe I'll get them to model them next time I go to their house.  I made another little dress loosely based on the pillowcase dresses and some bibs and this time I did get pics.  I also made a skirt out of some of the vintage material I found a while back.  I'm working on another skirt and a matching purse.  Hope I'll have pictures of that to show you soon.

Another Birthday Party!

We got together again to celebrate the birthdays  of our son and 2 of the grandchildren.  What fun!  Here I am with all the grands and I must say they are all so much fun.  May is a busy month around here with Mother's Day, 5 May birthdays, graduations, whew!  Almost as busy as December.

funky tree hat rack

Okay, today's post has nothing to do with my creative ventures, instead I'm sharing what my creative counterpart has had up his sleeve.  He found this really neat tree in the woods on the property and he has been watching it for some time now.  The tree somehow grew in a complete circle.  Every year while out in the woods he would routinely go by and examine this freakish tree.  Well, the tree died this winter and so he cut it down and dried it out and made this really cool hat rack out of it.  He isn't quite through with the base, but as soon as he is it will find its new home in our foyer.
